In true NZ style you take off from a high country sheep station at the head of the Rakiai River. From the helipad, the Arrowsmith Range looms up in the distance, some of the steepest heli ski terrain in New Zealand. The terrain area comprises of three mountain ranges running parallel to the Main Divide of the Southern Alps.

The terrain is big, steep and extensive. There are over 250 named runs that average 850 vertical metres, with some over 1200 vertical metres. Some of the landings are true Alaskan style and if you are an expert skier and the snow stability is good, you will be treated to big steep skiing.
Compared to other heliski operations in New Zealand, Methven benefits from more fly days. The easterly location of the operation is sheltered from the prevailing westerly weather patterns of New Zealand.
This is an intimate operation compared to the larger New Zealand operators and are well-known for providing the best small-group experience. This is a vast area with limited numbers of skiers.
