In 1974, together with Glentanner Sheep Station, Alpine Guides pioneered helicopter skiing in New Zealand. This is a wilderness of ancient glaciers, azure lakes, and endless runs in their exclusive terrain of Aoraki Mount Cook National Park.

These are the highest mountains and longest glaciers in New Zealand. The terrain encompasses 6 mountain ranges and also has New Zealand's longest glacier which is 27 kilometres. There are runs for all levels of heli-ski ability, from mellow glaciated terrain for intermediate skiers, to big steep terrain for experts.
The first commercial guiding activities started in the Mt Cook area in the 1880's and Alpine Guides were the first guiding company to operate heli-skiing in New Zealand. The mountains in the region also helped Sir Edmund Hillary to develop his climbing skills in preparation for the conquest of Everest. It takes some time to travel to the area, but you will be rewarded with a pure wilderness experience.
After a 40 minute flight you will be checking in to board your helicopter for the first run of the day. Alpine Guide's will coordinate flights and arrange airport transfers, to ensure the day runs smoothly. You will be back to the après ski scene just after 5:00 pm.
